Nvidia pledges $250m of computing over five years for UK research on agentic AI safety, and Huang tells Bloomberg he would cut off a customer building unsafe AI

The pledge is compute through Nvidia's own cloud partners, not cash, and its terms are still to be agreed.

On 14 October in London, Nvidia announced “a five-year compute donation valued at $250 million” for UK research on the safety and security of AI agents, at $50m a year. Most of it goes to the wider UK research community; named recipients include Oxford's BOLD lab, UCL's SOFAIR lab and Imperial College London. Access runs through UK-based Nvidia Cloud Partners, and the release says: “Provider selection, technical architecture and commercial terms are to be agreed.”

Jensen Huang said: “AI capability and safety must advance together.” Britain's AI minister Kanishka Narayan called the pledge “a vote of confidence in our world-leading strength and expertise in AI research”.

In London, Bloomberg's Emily Chang asked Huang whether Nvidia would stop supplying a developer that was building AI irresponsibly. “It's a hypothetical, but yes,” he answered, according to Bloomberg's report carried by The Star, and added: “But before you do so, you would have a conversation.” The Next Web also reported the exchange, and noted that the pledge is compute, not cash, and that Nvidia profits from the hardware it all runs on.
