DNB, Norway's biggest bank, will cut about 400 technology jobs and says AI agents are already doing the work

The bank names know-your-customer checks, customer-data control and coding as the tasks agentic AI now handles. The costs fall in the fourth quarter.

DNB Bank said on 6 October that it is restructuring its Technology & Services division, and that the changes entail “a reduction in the workforce of about 400 full-time equivalents (FTEs).”

The bank ties the cut directly to its own use of AI. It says it has streamlined internal processes and rolled out agentic AI that automates tasks once done by hand, and it names where it already sees large efficiency gains: control of customer data, know-your-customer (KYC) work, technology development and coding.

“AI is changing the way we work and how we deliver services to our customers. We are already seeing considerable gains, and are therefore adapting our organisation to a new reality,” said Group CEO Kjerstin Braathen.

Restructuring costs will be recognised in the fourth quarter of 2026, when the downsizing is due to be completed, and the cost effect will be fully reflected in the accounts from the second quarter of 2027. DNB says it will give the detailed financial impact later in 2026, and that it will follow the applicable rules and stay in close dialogue with employee representatives.

The release puts a headcount number on work the bank says AI agents now do. On the same day BBVA described its own group-wide model for building and running agents.
