Amazon is in talks to buy AI startup Decart for about $7bn, The Wall Street Journal reported
Decart, whose software helps AI models run across chips from different makers, raised money at about $4bn in May. Neither company has confirmed a deal.
Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart for about $7bn, The Wall Street Journal reported on 11 October, citing people familiar with the matter. The Journal's report could not be opened here; CTech and the Seoul Economic Daily both carry its figure.
Decart, founded in 2023, makes software that helps AI models run more efficiently and move between chips from different makers, and builds real-time video and world models. CTech reports that in May the company raised $300 million at a valuation of about $4 billion. The Seoul Economic Daily reports that, according to the people, a deal could be signed soon unless the talks collapse or another bidder appears. CTech also reports that Anthropic had earlier looked at buying Decart and walked away.
“Neither Amazon nor Decart has publicly confirmed an agreement,” CTech says. A search of coverage on 16 and 17 October found no confirmation, signing or denial, so the talks remain only reported.
Amazon designs its own Trainium AI chips and sells cloud computing through AWS, so Decart's chip-portability software would sit alongside its own hardware. The story drew 96 outlets, among them the Journal, Bloomberg, Reuters and Barron's, in the Switchboard's press count.
