TikTok unveils a shopping agent and an in-app checkout, with Shopify, Salesforce and Stripe among its partners
At Advertising Week New York it also launched a lead-gathering agent and an MCP server that lets outside AI assistants run TikTok ad campaigns.
TikTok announced a set of AI products for advertisers at Advertising Week New York on Monday 5 October. The one shoppers will see is Shopping Assistant, which TikTok's newsroom describes as “a conversational AI agent that guides users through their shopping journey”, covering product details, shipping, sizing, availability and purchase in one conversation.
It is paired with Buy Direct: “a seamless in-app checkout solution that allows users to make purchases directly from a brand, without leaving TikTok.” TikTok names Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe among its commerce and payments partners.
Two launches are aimed at businesses. Agentic Leads is an agent that gathers sales leads through guided conversations. A TikTok for Business MCP server lets developers' agents work with TikTok's advertising tools; TikTok says it is now available as a connector in assistants including Claude, Kimi, Manus and Perplexity.
TikTok's post does not say where Shopping Assistant and Buy Direct are available or how widely they will roll out. Some secondary reports describe a limited US test; that is not on TikTok's page, so it is not stated here.
The move puts TikTok alongside Meta, Google and OpenAI in trying to keep the whole purchase inside an AI conversation. For merchants, the open question is who owns the customer when an agent on someone else's platform makes the sale.
