SK Square, the holding company above SK hynix, backs Japanese robot-software maker Mujin, Korean press reports
Korean outlets say SK Square's overseas arm joined Mujin's Series D. Neither company has confirmed it, and SK Square's amount was not disclosed.
SK Square, the SK Group investment holding company whose biggest asset is its stake in SK hynix, has invested in Mujin, a Japanese maker of software that controls robots in factories and warehouses, the Korea Economic Daily (KED Global) reported on 11 October, citing people familiar with the matter. KED did not give the amount.
Hankyung, KED's Korean-language edition, and Asia Economy, citing industry sources on 12 October, say the money went in through TGC Square, SK Square's overseas investment unit, as part of Mujin's Series D round. Asia Economy describes SK Square as a major investor in the round. Hankyung says the deal brings to eight the US and Japanese AI and chip companies SK Square has backed, counting deals that have been announced.
Neither SK Square nor Mujin is quoted confirming the investment. An unnamed SK Square official speaks only about strategy: the company will keep looking for new investments across the AI and semiconductor value chain. The Korean reports frame the deal as a way to bring robot software into SK Group's chip manufacturing and logistics; that is the outlets' reading, not a company statement.
Mujin sells MujinOS, a platform for running industrial robots, according to its website. The size of the round and Mujin's valuation appear only in reports citing industry sources, not in anything from the companies, so they are not given here.
