Overland AI unveils Ibex, a driverless ground vehicle the US Marine Corps has picked for its counter-drone system

Built on the chassis of Polaris's MRZR, it is meant to work with no remote control or teleoperation, the company says.

Seattle-based Overland AI unveiled Ibex on 7 October, an autonomous ground vehicle built on the chassis, engine and drivetrain of the MRZR, a light military vehicle made by Polaris. The company says Ibex is designed to require no remote control or teleoperation.

Overland says Ibex has a payload capacity of 2,000 pounds and can drive at over 35 mph in full autonomy, and that it can cover 250 miles at 20 mph on one tank of diesel or JP-8. “The U.S. Marine Corps selected IBEX for integration into its Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) to strengthen the counter-UAS platform's lethality, sustainability, and survivability,” the release says.

Greg Okopal, Overland's co-founder and chief operating officer, said: “IBEX is a new platform built on the MRZR's proven chassis, engine, and drivetrain, so it can be deployed on day one and maintained with the parts and fuel units already have.”

Axios, which reported the launch as an exclusive, also gave contract figures. The Axios page could not be opened from here and the release gives no dollar amounts, so no figure is given. All performance numbers are the company's own.
