Nscale is in talks to sell Anthropic about $45bn more of computing, for a second building in West Virginia, Bloomberg reports

It would double the August deal. Neither company commented, and the talks could still change.

Nscale, the Nvidia-backed data-centre developer, is in talks on a new deal with Anthropic that could be worth about $45 billion, Bloomberg reported on Monday 19 October. Reuters first carried Bloomberg's report and then said a person familiar with the matter had told it the same, adding that talks are ongoing and the details could change.

According to Reuters' source, the deal would cover a second building at Nscale's Monarch campus in West Virginia, delivering 460 MW with Nvidia's Vera Rubin chips. Anthropic agreed in August to spend $45 billion renting capacity from Nscale's West Virginia campus, and Reuters says it holds a right of first refusal on a third. Reuters puts Nscale's total contracted value at more than $103 billion, built up in two and a half years.

Anthropic did not respond to Reuters, and TechCrunch got no reply from either company. All of these figures are reported; nothing has been signed or announced.

The talks come at a busy moment for Nscale. Microsoft has pulled out as anchor tenant of one of its planned data centres in Britain, which the Switchboard reported on 18 October, and Reuters now ties that to power-connection delays running into the 2030s. Nscale is also seeking to go public, TechCrunch notes.
