Manus raises more than $500m, its first funding since China made Meta unwind its takeover
Boyu Capital and IDG Capital lead the round for the agent maker's parent, Butterfly Effect, which gives no valuation.
Manus, the maker of AI agents, which moved its staff to Singapore in mid-2025, has raised more than $500m, the first money it has taken since its $2bn sale to Meta was undone. Its parent company, Butterfly Effect, announced the round in a WeChat post, TechCrunch reported; that post could not be found from here. VKTR reported the same figure and the same lead investors.
Boyu Capital and IDG Capital led the round. Existing shareholders Tencent, HSG (formerly Sequoia China) and ZhenFund also took part, both outlets reported. Manus did not disclose a valuation. VKTR said Bloomberg had reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that the round would double the valuation to $4bn. TechCrunch noted that Manus had been said last month to be in talks to raise $500m at $4bn.
Meta agreed to buy Manus in December 2025. In April, “Chinese authorities ordered the AI startup to unwind the deal,” TechCrunch reported. Manus resumed independent operations in August and has since launched Manus 2.0 and Cue, an app that gives agents their own email addresses, phone numbers, wallets and computers. “The AI company said it will continue hiring both at home and abroad,” TechCrunch wrote.
