Google opens Gemini 4 Argon to all paying API developers and to Pro and Ultra subscribers, at an introductory $2 and $10 per million tokens that doubles on 1 December

Two weeks after cyber defenders got it first, Argon is on the paid Gemini API and in the Gemini app. It is not on the free tier, and a separate post pitches it to robot builders.

Why it matters: Google's top model is now on general sale at half its list price for seven weeks, aimed squarely at the coding and agent work its rivals compete for. It also moves a general frontier model straight into robotics, where Google had offered dedicated models to partners.

Google made Gemini 4 Argon generally available on 13 October. On 1 October it had announced Argon and given it first to vetted cyber defenders, which the Switchboard ran; this is the wider release. Google's developer post calls Argon “our frontier model for complex workflows across real-world software engineering”.

Developers can start building on the paid tier of the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Android Studio, the post says, and Google AI Ultra subscribers can try it in AI Studio and in Antigravity, Google's agent-first development platform. A second post says “Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can now access Gemini 4 Argon and give Gemini tasks to get more done.” It also brings Antigravity's agentic coding interface into the Gemini app for macOS, adds a switch from chat to tasks that keep running while the user is away, and says Gemini now connects to more than 40 apps, including Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe and Shopify.

The Gemini API pricing page lists gemini-4-argon at $2.00 per million input tokens and $10.00 per million output tokens through 30 November 2026, then $4.00 and $20.00 from 1 December. Batch prices are half. The page adds: “Note: Gemini 4 Argon is not available on the Free tier or on the Google AI Pro plan.” Neither launch post gives benchmark figures.

A third post, “Gemini 4 Argon for Robotics” by Kanishka Rao, pitches the same model to robot builders. It says: “Using pure reasoning, Argon scores 87%, outperforming every other frontier model” on the ERQA embodied-reasoning benchmark, and that practice in a simulation twin the model built raised a real robot's success rate from 56% to 75%. Both figures are Google's own.
