Cohere plans to buy AISLE, an AI bug-hunting startup that says it found more than 500 unknown flaws, and launch a Cohere Cyber division
Reuters calls it a letter of intent; no price was disclosed. AISLE's founder will run the new division from Prague.
Cohere, the Canadian enterprise AI company, said on 15 October: “Today Cohere announced a proposed agreement to acquire AISLE”. AISLE builds autonomous AI systems that find, check and help fix unknown vulnerabilities in software. Reuters reports the companies signed a letter of intent, that the terms were not disclosed, and that AISLE's 50 full-time employees will join Cohere.
Cohere says that in its first year out of stealth AISLE discovered more than 500 previously unknown vulnerabilities assigned CVEs across more than 100 codebases, “including all 12 vulnerabilities in OpenSSL's January security release” and “18 of the 24 CVEs in curl's latest release”. Those are Cohere's claims about the company it is buying.
AISLE's founder, Ondrej Vlcek, is to become senior vice president of a new division, Cohere Cyber. Jaya Baloo becomes Cohere's chief information security officer, and Stanislav Fort vice president, AI security. Cohere promises a substantial long-term investment in Prague.
The deal puts an AI vulnerability-hunting business inside a model maker, in a week in which the press has followed AI-found exploits closely: on 14 October XBOW said AI agents helped build a Chrome exploit chain worth a $250,000 award. No closing date or conditions have been given.
