ChatGPT adds virtual try-on for clothes and accessories, plus a Favorites list for shopping

OpenAI began rolling out two shopping features in ChatGPT worldwide on 1 October, TechCrunch and Gulf News reported: virtual try-on for clothing and accessories, and a Favorites list for saving products. OpenAI's own help pages refused access twice, so this story rests on those two outlets.

When ChatGPT shows an eligible clothing or accessory item, a Try on button appears, Gulf News reported. Users take or upload a selfie, and ChatGPT generates a picture of them wearing the product. Users can also upload an image of an item from elsewhere, such as a screenshot, and ask ChatGPT to try it on, TechCrunch reported. “OpenAI said its new shopping features leverage the newly launched ChatGPT Images 2.5 model,” TechCrunch wrote.

Saved products go to the ChatGPT Library and can be sorted into folders. OpenAI keeps the reference selfie for future shopping sessions, and users can view, change or delete it in their personalisation settings, Gulf News reported. OpenAI warns that the images may not reproduce the product or the user exactly and do not guarantee fit or size, according to Gulf News.

TechCrunch noted that OpenAI earlier moved away from an instant checkout feature that did not perform well, and that Google launched its own try-on tool in 2025. Neither outlet gives usage figures or says which plans get the features.
