ASML reports €11.7bn of third-quarter sales and says its planned supply for 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand

The maker of the lithography machines behind leading-edge AI chips says customers keep raising their forecasts because of AI investment, and it is looking at adding more 2028 capacity than the 30% it had announced.

ASML, the Dutch company that makes the EUV lithography machines needed for leading-edge AI chips, reported third-quarter total net sales of €11,662 million on 14 October, up from €9,326 million in the second quarter. Gross margin was 57.5% and net income €4,960 million. It sold 113 new and 8 used lithography systems. The release says sales came in towards the high end of its guidance.

Chief executive Christophe Fouquet's statement gives the reason: “Our customers continue to increase their short- and medium-term equipment demand forecasts with us, driven primarily by their views on the size and duration of AI-related investments.” He goes further: “we now expect that our supply as currently planned for both 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet the demand of our customers.” And: “Given this, we are investigating ways to increase capacity for 2028 beyond the 30% increase we previously communicated.”

ASML guides fourth-quarter sales to €14.2bn–15.2bn at a gross margin of about 57%, and full-year 2026 sales to €44bn–45bn at about 56%. It bought back about €4.1bn of shares in the quarter and declared an interim dividend of €1.88 a share, payable on 4 November.

The results arrive after two days in which memory-chip shares fell hard in Seoul, which the Switchboard ran. ASML's own pages could not be opened here; the figures are from its release as distributed by GlobeNewswire and carried by Yahoo Finance, checked against a second copy.
