Anthropic's match of staff charity gifts with company stock cost more than $660m, The Information reported
The non-cash charge was in figures given to prospective investors ahead of the company's planned listing, according to the report.
Anthropic recorded more than $660 million in costs between October 2025 and March 2026 for the company stock it uses to match employees' charitable gifts, The Information reported, according to The Decoder. The Decoder said The Information obtained documents the company shared with potential investors ahead of its planned IPO. Crypto Briefing gave the same figure and period, without naming its source. The Information's article is behind a paywall and was not opened from here, so the figures are reported, not confirmed.
The match works by Anthropic topping up an employee's gift of shares to charity with additional company shares, The Decoder said. Because the match is paid in shares rather than cash, Crypto Briefing called it a non-cash expense, and both outlets said it dilutes other shareholders. Early employees get triple their donation's value, The Decoder reported.
The figure matters for reading Anthropic's accounts as it heads for a listing. A large stock-based charge for charity sits alongside the revenue, losses and compute obligations already reported from its prospectus, which the Switchboard has covered. The more Anthropic's shares are worth, the more each matched gift costs.
Anthropic has not published the figure in a public filing, and its response to the report is not visible from here. A quarterly breakdown appeared in only one of the two outlets and is left out.
